Our primary level is designed for ages three through five and focuses on movement and musicality. Special emphasis is directed toward dynamics, rhythm, placement, focus and interaction with others. We strive to create an educational yet fun atmosphere for the students where they are given an opportunity to build confidence and explore creativity. Due to a shorter attention span of primary aged children, the class will be 45 mins in length.
Level One is where the beginning foundational building blocks of ballet technique are introduced. Dancers will become familiar with all basic body positions of the feet and arms, body alignment and placement, rotation, turning and jumping concepts and musicality. Both barre and center work are incorporated in this level.
Level Two will continue to focus on all the elements introduced in level one and expand on the curriculum by adding a more diverse combination of steps and transitional concepts. Focus areas will also include core strengthening for pointe work preparation and expanded use of the artistic element.
Levels three and four are designed for the more experienced dancer who has completed the needed training and strength building concepts contained in the previous levels. We will incorporate a more complex element of technical steps, transitional movements and artistry which will increase their knowledge and technical finesse.
Once a dancer has achieved the needed strength and technical elements and progressed to level three, they will be ready to begin pointe work. We offer three levels of concentration in pointe work; Pre Pointe/Intro Pointe, Pointe 1 and Pointe 2. Pointe work requires diligent application and technical strength; thus, is by audition only. Dancers in this level are required to participate in a minimum of two technical ballet classes per week to be considered eligible for pointe work.
Classical Variations will be periodically inserted into the pointe curriculum. During that time we will explore, teach and perform various classical ballet variations from full length ballets. This area of study will serve to better expand and strengthen the serious minded student and is offered to levels three and above by invitation only.
Our Contemporary classes will cover a broad area of study. We will explore both neo classical and commercial styles of contemporary movement widely seen in modern choreography. Also incorporated in this class will be the valuable skill building technique of improvisation. Due to the high intensity level of focus and body strength required, we only offer these classes to dancers over the age of ten that are currently enrolled in ballet level two or above.
Stretch and Conditioning class is designed for the serious minded student that would like to build their core level of strength and flexibility. An array of body strengthening, stretching and conditioning concepts will be taught with safe and thoughtful care to the individual needs of each student. This class is best formulated for dancers over the ages of ten.
Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater.
Adult classes in ballet and stretch/conditioning will focus on all of the above listed elements keeping in mind the unique needs of adult students. Due to our small class sizes we are able to modify the class to accommodate different levels of technical abilities.
We gladly offer private lessons to any level of student currently enrolled in two or more of our ballet classes. These lessons will be uniquely designed to meet the individual learning needs of each student and are conditional to studio space availability.
